••• For my money, the best bread in the area is at Bettina—no surprise, since co-owner Brendan Smith was once the baker at the esteemed Roberta’s in New York City. You may not have known that it’s possible to buy a loaf ($12), although if you really want one, you should email [email protected] a day or two in advance, so the restaurant can save one for you. (They only bake a few extras each day.)
••• The farmstand at Fairview Gardens Organic Farm in Goleta appears to have reopened, judging from a Funk Zone Farm post (now gone) on Instagram. UPDATE: Yep, it’s open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
••• Credit to Merci Montecito for making a bag of its excellent housemade potato chips free with the purchase of a sandwich.
••• This coming Saturday, October 12, is the Santa Barbara Harbor Festival: “Come enjoy the abundance of the Santa Barbara Channel, rich in sustainably harvested, high-quality seafood. Meet fishermen face-to-face. Select fresh-caught lobster and sea urchin ‘uni’ and have them prepared on the spot. Visit specialty food booths for fish tacos, oysters, mussels, barbequed albacore, fresh crab, clam chowder and seafood paella.” It’s 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two photos from a previous year….
