••• “The owners of the Glen Annie Golf Club want to build between 800 and 1,000 new homes on the existing golf course, on a hill across the street from Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara. The plan calls for the demolition of the course, and in its place, a mix of housing types, including apartments, studios and single-family homes. The proposal has been met with opposition from nearby residents who have raised concerns about housing density and traffic circulation. To sweeten the deal, however, the developers also have proposed a child-care center, hiking trails, a community center, a swimming pool and other public amenities.” —Noozhawk

Terrible news about Glen Annie becoming housing. Golf play is at an all time high, demand for tee times and practice facilities has never been greater. SB has already lost 3 golf courses. Ocean Meadows, Rancho San Marcos (thanks a lot Ty) and the great little / beginner course Hidden Oaks.
If Glen Annie shutters and Sandpiper goes down for a multi year remodel next year, we’ll be left with a single public access golf course for an area of 250k people and a steady draw of millions of tourists.
Golf is a tremendous tourist draw and a great activity for people of all ages. Regardless of some uneducated people’s opinions, courses are actually a benefit to the environment and wildlife and when well managed, use very little water since they take advantage of effluence.
People make vacation choices based on access to activities such as golf. Without good courses, they’ll just go elsewhere.
Without more affordable housing options, where will the people live who serve drinks and food to said tourists? Those who clean the golf course for tourists? Or if Mr Tourist has a heart attack on vacation, where will the nurses and doctors who will save his life live??? Our town has enough activity and natural beauty for tourists – and if the ocean and mountains are not enough, then maybe golfing in Phoenix is a better fit. We need housing – for real people – not luxury condos for second homes… real affordable housing for the workers who make Santa Barbara a community.
Oh puleeze. Produce the paperwork where it says all housing built at Glen Annie is workforce priced
Hello? Have you ever heard of a car before? The commute in LA for low income workers and for healthcare workers is generally more than Santa. A 35 minute commute from Ventura or 45 minute from Lompoc is not the end of the world. Maybe you should put away that horse and buggy.
I remember when they were trying to build Glen Annie Golf course. Had many hoops to jump about the endangered frogs, hence the name of the Frog Bar. I guess frogs and golfers be damned now!
Limiting cruise ship visits also limits our local business
