When the Next Segment of Carpool Lanes Might Open

••• The new plantings at the north end of San Ysidro Ranch are filling in. Why is there a path to the ravine? Lover’s Leap? UPDATE: A. pointed out that you used to be able to bring your horse to the Ranch (and sent over this 1990 rate card to prove it).

••• Every time I get stuck in traffic in the construction zone on Highway 101, I wonder whether any of the new three-lane stretch might open anytime soon. (Some of it looks all but done.) “The plan is to open the new carpool lanes once the final pavement activities are complete in the Padaro section,” explained rep Kirsten Ayars. “This will allow us to open the carpool lanes from Carpinteria into Summerland. There are still a few more months of work before that will be ready—end of the year or early next year, depending on the weather this fall/winter.”

••• From Caltrans: The “full closure on a small section of State Route 192 between Orizaba Road and Parma Park for ongoing storm damage repair work will reopen on Wednesday, October 23. Following the reopening of SR 192, travelers will encounter intermittent one-way reversing traffic control on State Route 192 near Parma Park to allow Caltrans to continue storm damage repair work.” That part is expected to be done sometime this fall.

••• The new Michael Towbes Library Plaza outside the Santa Barbara Public Library’s central branch on E. Anapamu Street debuts November 3 with a block party from noon to 4 p.m. Here’s a rendering.

••• Now open at 5036 Carpinteria Avenue in Carpinteria: The Longevity Lab, a “one-stop shop for all things holistic health and wellness [with] thoughtfully curated home and body products.” It’s from the folks behind The Swell Score.

••• “There’s a new traffic light at Storke Road and Whittier Drive, complete with traffic cameras and pedestrian signals, but it’s been turned off since the construction was completed over the summer,” emailed S. “I assumed the city was waiting until UCSB started to turn it on, but it’s still off. Any idea what the plan is?” Apparently, it’s not uncommon for the poles to be up but not “energized,” because other stuff—the wiring, hardscape improvements (crosswalk striping, ramps), etc.—has to happen first. The general contractor is saying it’ll definitely by the end of the month.

••• Up through November 5 at Caldwell Snyder: Land and Water, paintings by Siddarth Parasnis. Below: “Boats in the Shallow Water.”

Regarding the carpool lanes opening by years end or more, Please tell me what ” few more months of work before that will be ready” . No one has worked on the lanes in 2 months and seems to have zero motivation to open imo.
