Three Stores Are Closing (or Have Already Closed)

••• Two recent commercial real estate transactions of note…. First, the Vercal Building at 1 N. Calle Cesar Chavez, on 7.45 acres, sold for $36.5 million; the same buyer, SB Velero Properties LLC, also bought the parking lot across the street (below), at the northwest corner of Quinientos Street. I’m no expert in commercial real estate, but that seems like a high number unless someone has plans to redevelop it—although the area is still fairly industrial, and shortly after the transaction closed, a tenant with 12,000 square feet renewed its lease.

••• And the midcentury building at 411 E. Canon Perdido Street (Laguna/Olive) sold to SB Storage Partners LP for $6.7 million. I can’t find anything online about SB Storage Partners, but here’s hoping the it has higher goals for the building than mini-storage.

••• A reader heard that the new, 78-unit Soltara apartment building at E. Gutierrez and State Street is being sold to a new owner who intends to use it for corporate housing—so no new leases will be signed and the existing leases will not be renewed. I was unable to confirm it with the Soltara leasing office, so we’ll have to see whether the property does indeed change hands.

••• The Light and Home store on W. Calle Laureles is moving to Portland, Ore.: “To commemorate this significant transition, we are offering an incredible storewide sale with discounts ranging from 15% to 70% off on all items in our showroom. Light and Home has been a beloved destination for those seeking unique lighting fixtures, stylish furniture, gifts, decor, rugs, and essential household goods. Our showroom features an impressive selection of renowned brands, including Alessi, Visual Comfort, Arteriors, FLOS, Oly Studio, Vondom, WAC, and Arne Jacobsen.”

••• Party store Ready Set Confetti, in the Coast Village Road strip mall that’s also home to Starbucks, is closing: “Our entire store is now 50% off. Our lease ends January 31, and our sale will run till our shelves are empty!”

••• And Parker Clay has decided to close its shop. P. sent a photo of the notice.

••• Peak Hygiene is something I hadn’t heard of before: a dental hygienist (Meghan Webley) opening an office without a dentist. It’s at 121 E. Mason Street (Gray/Santa Barbara).

••• Justin commented with more info about the hive-like sculpture atop 513 Garden Street, subject of the most recent Where in Santa Barbara…?: “It’s a free-standing bamboo sculpture by artist Gerard Minakawa. It functions as a meditative space.” Here’s are two of his other works, from L.A. and Portugal.

I’m really curious about Peak Hygiene. It would be a nice experience to have your teeth cleaned without having the dentist come in afterward with bad news. Also, sorry to see the Parker Clay retail store close. Love their products!!!
