The West Mesa Dragon Has a New Friend

••• Remember the two-headed dragon that showed up on Carlton Way in West Mesa? Godzilla has joined it, reports Steve Litchfield of Litchfield Builders, the contractor on the project. He sent over photos of the installation…. Now all we need is King Kong to make the trip from Montecito.

••• Goleta’s Mācher is opening not just one new shop this spring (at Linden Square in Carpinteria), but also a second one at 1090 Edison Street in Santa Ynez, where its neighbor is MER lifestyle boutique.

••• Don’t mess with any trail easements that run through your property. From the Montecito Trails Foundation: “This winter, we encountered two trail closures and one unauthorized relocation—but thanks to our collective efforts, we were able to alert County Parks and successfully reopen these trails for public use.” The examples include “a closure on Old Pueblo Trail by Southern California Gas Company that was not permitted; a closure on Coffin Trail that restricted access without proper authorization; an unpermitted relocation on Bella Vista Trail [below], where false signage was posted to make it appear compliant.” If you see something suspicious, let the MTF know. Also, “We have been granted permission to start on the final phase of the San Ysidro Trail restoration. […] We hope to begin work as early as April.”

••• Chris Isaak plays Ojai’s Libbey Bowl on May 24. Here’s the lead single from his 1985 debut album, Silvertone.

••• Dwight Yoakam plays the Santa Barbara Bowl on July 11, with the Mavericks as the opening act; their cover of the Flying Burrito Brothers’ “Hot Burrito No. 1” is one of my very favorite songs. And Caamp returns to the Bowl on July 18.

••• Press release: “The Santa Barbara Public Library is thrilled to announce the addition of 30 passes to Ice in Paradise, each offering free admission for two skaters. […] Discover all the other amazing items you can borrow from the Library of Things, including California State Parks passes, telescopes, sewing machines, SB Botanic Garden passes, and more in the library catalog.”

••• Opening April 3 at Tamsen Gallery: Reminiscence, new works by Loan Chabanol.
