The Mesa’s House of the Dragon

••• “On Carlton Way, something caught my eye while out for a walk with my dogs,” emailed N. “It appears to be a metal sculpture of a two-headed dragon around which the home is being built. I thought you might enjoy this one.” I think we all might! UPDATE: “It’s all made out of scrap metal by a sculptor in the Philippines then shipped to a distributor in Las Vegas,” explained Steve Litchfield of Litchfield Builders, the contractor on the project. And he sent over a couple of better photos.

••• The Chrisman California Islands Center in Carpinteria has opened.

••• Titanic Days is up through April 21 at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum. Love how you discover your fate at the end.

••• Press release: “The 50-year-old Las Positas Tennis Center has reopened after a 16-month, $2.7 million renovation by Elings Park, which has managed the facility since 2011.” Among the improvements: “The Centers’ six courts have newly installed LED lighting for night play, the stadium-style viewing areas have been improved, retaining walls built,” and “the two restrooms were rebuilt on the footprints of the original circa 1972 buildings, as was the tennis pros’ office.”

••• Two more Santa Barbara Bowl shows have been announced: comedian Bert Kreischer July 20 (I started watching a recent performance and then I realized I’d rather be doing anything else) and John Fogerty on September 1.

••• A shop/salon called Royal Bee—apparently related to this?—is at 925 State Street. I think it’s new.

••• Arrediamo, the rug store formerly of Santa Fe, has opened in a large chunk of the Big Yellow House building in Summerland. There are more than two thousand rugs, as well as some furniture (with more on the way).

My very nerdy boyfriend tells me that the three-headed dragon statue is almost certainly “Godzilla’s coolest enemy, King Ghidorah.”

Is construction finally starting at Mackenzie market? I see a lot of movement there today.

It is interesting to see the full two-headed dragon. I’ve only seen a peek from the street. Looks like the pirate house is rebranding as the dragon house.
