The Mesa Is Getting an Indian Restaurant

••• Thanks to B. for the tip that Goleta’s Masala Spice is taking over Mesa Verde’s old space on Cliff Drive.

••• Aperitivo‘s Da Sola wine bar pop-up ends tonight, but the restaurant will remain open seven days a week from now on—and serving food all week, but no pastas Sunday through Tuesday. Think of it as a preview of what Aperitivo will be like after its sister restaurant around the corner debuts.

••• Besides the previously announced location at 504 State Street, due this fall, Lily’s Donuts & Pops will also be joining the Santa Barbara Public Market lineup in the next few months, in the space (currently seating) between Corazón Cocina and Empty Bowl. Both locations will sell doughnuts and paletas.

••• Happy Cat Eats will finally open on October 1.

••• I thought the Saturday farmers’ market felt pretty good in its new location, at least on the Carrillo parts. The northern State section had so few vendors I’m not sure I see the point of it—perhaps some were taking the day off?—and the stalls on the southern stub were widely spaced out for no clear reason. Anyway, the room to maneuver was welcome, as were the cops on hand to make sure cyclists didn’t come flying through.

••• October 11 at Tyler x Lieu Dit: “Chef Daisy Ryan from Bell’s will be preparing a five-course meal paired with wines from Tyler and Lieu Dit, with proceeds supporting Feed the Valley’s mission to combat food insecurity in Santa Barbara County.” Ticket info.

••• A profile of Petrini’s Italian Restaurant. —Noozhawk

••• According to a press release about The Harbor Restaurant‘s recent relaunch, it “plans to offer lunch and brunch in the coming months” and the “next phase of renovations will focus on Longboard’s Grill upstairs, new restrooms, a grab-and-go window, and a coffee and sweets Shop downstairs.”

••• 805 Foodie puzzled out the location of Ojai favorite Pinyon‘s forthcoming restaurant in Ventura: “The restaurant’s Ventura location will have more of a speakeasy vibe. It is currently under construction directly behind Rori’s Artisanal Creamery, which opened last year at 286 E. Main Street. Pinyon Ventura’s entrance will be around the corner at 11 S. Palm Street, near the end of a narrow paseo that in recent years has been used to store trash bins for neighboring businesses.”

••• La Cantina in Noleta’s Turnpike Center has officially opened. Here’s the menu, which is the same at lunch and dinner.

Yes, most of the vendors seemed to be on the Carrillo part of new market and state st stands were oddly spaced and not very busy. Northern block of State had to contend with a few restaurants parklets. But all good. Just need to figure out best and closest place to park so lugging all my produce and fruit isn’t too difficult.

+1 to this!! We discovered Masala Spice after my wife started working in Goleta, and it’s our go-to Indian restaurant now. Glad to see them expanding, and it’ll be nice to have a location in SB proper.

Thanx to JD Vance, Happy Cat Eats may want to rethink their name. 🧐 (just sayin’)

LOL! The dems are leaning into that one. I just drove past a Harris Walz sign with a large gray tabby in the middle. I wonder if the campaign makes these or if it was doctored.

You know, this site isn’t Edhat, Nextdoor, or the freak show of local Maga, SB Current. If Erik wants this site to be like one of those that’s fine with me. However, back when Edhat was the #1 local website the owner, Peter Sklar had a policy of no national politics mentioned, ever. I think it was good policy.

That being said I hate to ask, What in the heck do you mean by saying, “friends of school shooters unite!”

Dan, that was a reference to what amounted to a nervous slip of the tongue by Walz. Think he meant to say friend of victims of a school shooting, but he said he’s friends with a school shooter. Everyone kind of looked at each other quizzically with that one. Let’s all keep the politics off Siteline, plz! Enjoy that it’s different than the rest.

Dan- there is no need to be triggered EVERY SINGLE TIME. For real.
It was a slip of his tongue and it was HILARIOUS! Great debate- I hope everyone watched it.

40 years ago I was working for John McCain, a few months later I moved here to SB. One thing I learned from him is you can’t take morons seriously.

And no I didn’t watch the debate because after 30 seconds I thought Walz looked like the guy from Heaven’s Gate that led all those cult members to commit suicide. . .

Roan bread drew the short straw at the farmer’s market, I hope they are moved to a better location. They are the last stall down State Street and hardly anyone was walking that far.

Equating Tim Walz with a cult leader is pretty rich coming from a Trump follower.

Oops! I think I misspoke, Dan. Got all tangled in this thread & confused you with one of Dear Leader’s minions. My apologies!

Jeez – I’ve been here for 10 years, which is still not all that long – so I can remember my East Coast days, where the perceptions about this town are mostly about how radical left it leans. If those people came out here and passed some time at the Red Barn, or the Tee Off, they would be amazed!

Dems outnumber republicans by a lot in SB, so a few noisy people online are not a very accurate reflection of this town or the for that matter the whole state.
