The Indoor-Outdoor Lifestyle of Yore

Noteworthy new listings….

The floor plan of 680 Buena Vista Drive ($10.9 million) is like a mashup of Clue and Tetris, but the 1929 Mary Craig house—named La Macarena, and sorry if this is now stuck in your head—has all kinds of historical charm, and it sits on two acres. Anyone up for a project? You can’t get more “indoor-outdoor lifestyle” than this.

················

A much more polished jewel, 2014 Garden Street ($6.495 million) is an 1895 Crocker Row house given a handsome makeover—and since it now has four and a half bedrooms, one more than when it was last listed in 2020, I assume most of the bedrooms, if not all, are now en suite. The outlier photo is of a meditation room in the attic. P.S. The listing mentions a “goodnight kiss porch,” which I’m having trouble making sense of.

With its prime Hedgerow location, 1520 Willina Lane ($5.25 million) may prove a draw even though it’s small (two bedrooms, two baths) and needs updating. The cottage is pressed up against the back of the lot, with a pool house and a hedged front yard that awaits activation. P.S. The bathrooms are the scene of interesting activities, judging from the cabinet by one tub and the desk (?) by another.

“Do you really want to be in for $4+ million on Chelham Way…?” I asked back in July 2021, when 792 Chelham Way ($4.995 million) was on the market for $3.5 million but in need of work. That work has now been done, if to somewhat humdrum effect, but the question still stands: do you really want to be in for $5 million on Chelham Way?

The seller of 62 Canon View Drive ($4 million) paid $1.905 million in May 2020 and made a lot of technological and infrastructure upgrades (including a “built-in industrial microwave upstairs”), but left the dated surfaces. Even if you freshen those up, you’ll have to contend with the 1970s architecture. In its favor, the property has big mountain views.

And a few others worth checking out:
••• 3010 Paseo Tranquillo ($3.895 million): Well, that didn’t stick. The San Roque spec reno listed for $4.25 million in April 2023, selling for $3.63 million after seven months, is back on the market. At least the plants have grown in a bit (below).
••• 4247 Rancho Asoleado ($3.6 million): 1988 five-bedroom with vintage lines in a gated community near Modoc Road.
••• 5091 Yaple Avenue ($2.749 million): 1969 five-bedroom, three-bath house off Cathedral Oaks Road.
••• 2521 Banner Avenue ($2.975 million): Four-bedroom, four-bath house in Summerland.
••• 2380 Banner Avenue ($2.185 million): Three-bedroom condo up the street.
