••• The Ellwood has started serving lunch Wednesday through Sunday. (No reservations.) It’s certainly one of the most spectacular lunch settings in the area. Here’s the menu.
••• On October 30, Outstanding in the Field is hosting a dinner on Stearns Wharf, with food from Loquita chef Cristian Granada and drinks by Good Lion’s Brandon Ristaino. Tickets are $395.
••• If you’re planning on being in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in May, you can get a taste of the cooking of chef Dom Crisp—whose Dom’s Taverna is coming to the former Trattoria Vittoria space—at a Nicolas-Jay Estate dinner on May 17.
••• An update on The Dutch Garden from Noozhawk: “Kelly Brown, owner of the Natural Cafe restaurants, is a new investor in Dutch Garden Restaurant. Brown, along with Dutch Garden operating partner Matt English, plans to revitalize the menu more in the spirit of previous owner Ken Luetjen, and expand the hours.”
••• Developers of the Linden Square complex in Carpinteria tell the Independent they’re expecting to open in late April, but I’ve heard from tenants that May is more likely. Also, the Corazón outpost there will be called Corazón Cocina del Sur (although on Instagram it’s just Corazón Cocina Sur).
••• While traveling in New Zealand (more on that later), I’ve found many terrific low-alcohol IPAs—like around 2.2% ABV—and I’ve been wondering whether any Central Coast brewers make something similar. Anyone know? They’re perfect for when you just want a little buzz.
••• Cutler’s Distillery & Public House (418 N. Salsipuedes Street) is now open daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dinner menu is below, with more items to be added soon, and lunch should start up in the next week or two.

Always amazes me how some eating establishments in the industrial parts of Santa Barbara can charge the same prices or more than the high end restaurants on Coast Village Road.
And you are amazed at that….why? Are you under the mistaken impression that rents in The Drunk Zone are cheap….?
I thought the same thing as City@SB. The Ellwood has ocean views, Cutler is very much in the industrial area of town. Not in this Drunk Zone you speak of.
Topa Topa did 2% IPA in the fall of 2021 as a limited release but I’m not aware of any local breweries that have one on tap currently. It seems like the focus have shifted to releasing non-alcoholic options in parallel (i.e. Firestone 805 Zero, Fig Mountain now have a few options).
My husband couldn’t drink for awhile (medication) and really liked the Athletic Free Wave IPA. It’s got .05 alcohol content so less then you wanted. He’s still drinking it and enjoying it!
If he likes them, they just released tall boys (19.2oz/568ml) on their website for general order.
We love Athletic as well and sell them in our shop in Old Town Goleta. If you ever want to give him a gift full of unique local goodies and a six pack of N/A Athletic, check us out! http://www.santabarbaragiftbaskets.com
Cutler’s is selling their locally produced, premium alcohol, and prices reflect such…
11$ for a draft beer what a joke!
They are all local brews that cost $9 at the breweries. That’s a pretty standard price…also who goes to cutlers and gets a beer? But if you do want one he’s sourced the best!
We’ve gone to Cutlers now 2-3 times and have been very impressed. The burnt ends broccoli is incredible.
I’m still trying to figure out if “Wedgie Salad” is a typo or not.
Tried Elwood for dinner last week. Food excellent but entire menu pricey! Also limited entree options. Setting is priceless but decor not as beachy as beloved Beachside. Much more tailored – kind of a Hamptons vibe. Was packed for dinner so it will probably do well despite prices. Adding lunch makes sense for all local industry and UCSB.
For a seller not exactly doing a “flip,” but just trying to get out quickly with his or her pants still on, perhaps the more appropriate term is a “flap.” After all, according to the dictionary, a flap is movement of a wing or an arm from side to side. “By George, that guy just bought in a couple of months ago, now it’s listed again, and he did nothing to improve the place! He’s doing a flap!”
I thought the Cutler’s menu was reasonably priced until noticing the $11 draft beer. If maintaining a supply of the draft beer is an issue, they could also offer bottles/cans. Am I the only one who prefers a bottle/can so I can pour it periodically to get a fresh aromatic head instead of sipping on what quickly becomes a stale glass of draught beer?
Unrelated, but the winery in Summerland is closing :( Any idea what might be going in next? I live in Summerland and am hoping it’s another wine and/or beer spot – extra points the food is good and it’s open past 5 pm. Would love to have another evening hangout on the main drag!!
Hayley it sounds like you’re ordering a pizza. Are you serious?? Do you know how difficult it is for restaurant owners to put everything on the line? And along come people like yourself asking for the moon and the sky. I have an idea… why don’t you invest your money and open up a place just like you want? Let’s see what happens
