Starbucks Is Coming to Milpas Street

••• Starbucks is opening an outpost at the 402 N. Milpas Street (at Gutierrez), formerly a 7-Eleven. It’ll have indoor and outdoor seating.

••• Green Table is closing at the end of the month.

••• The Gathering Table in Solvang, which I’ve been hearing good things about, is now serving brunch Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here’s the menu. Maybe I’m out of touch, but the prices—$15 for oatmeal, $19 for two eggs and bacon, $24 for a breakfast burrito—seem more like what you’d expect at a hotel.

••• J. and E. spotted a liquor-license notice at the former site of Trattoria Vittoria (30 E. Victoria Street) that says the name of the new establishment is Dom’s Taverna—and they naturally wondered whether it’s related to Little Dom’s Seafood in Carpinteria. It’s not. The proprietor is Raj Nallapothola of Laie Vermouth Toronix Gourmet,* who reportedly intends to open a Basque restaurant there. [UPDATE: Nallapothola says that Laie is not connected to this endeavor, and he confirmed that the restaurant will be “Basque-style.”]

••• [I ran this in the last food roundup but neglected to include it in the blurb on the home page, so here it is again.] Carpinteria’s 700 Linden development—home to outposts of Bettina, Third Window, Corazón Cocina, and Dart Coffee Co.—has a new name (Linden Square) and a new opening forecast (January at the earliest). And Bettina’s restaurant will be called Tina’s: “Tina’s will be featuring the same naturally leavened pies as Bettina, with all the wonderfully sourced toppings you know and love, along with salads, apps and more! […] We’re also very happy to be fulfilling our dream of operating a little provisions shop out of Tina’s so that we can share all of the condiments (ranch!), Italian specialty items (pasta! sardines!), and thoughtfully sourced wines that we feature at Bettina and enjoy at our home.”

••• The annual Santa Barbara Harbor & Seafood Festival is this Saturday, October 19: “Come enjoy the abundance of the Santa Barbara Channel, rich in sustainably harvested, high-quality seafood. Meet fishermen face-to-face. Select fresh-caught lobster and sea urchin. Visit specialty food booths for fish tacos, oysters, mussels, barbequed albacore, fresh crab, clam chowder, and seafood paella.”

••• You can order now for the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church’s Greek Grab Go, with pickup on November 2 or 3. Offerings include gyros, pastitsio, spanakopita, dolmathes, fasolakia, keftedes, feta, baklava, and loukoumades.

••• Friends recommended Tutu’s Tortilla Chips, available at The Eddy, and they are indeed addictive. We had them with guacamole, but I think they might be even better on their own, so you can taste the lemon flavoring.

What’s up with all the negative comments regarding the owners of the Chase Restaurant?
Saying that they themselves set fire to the restaurant?
