Scandinavian-Style Estate With Its Own Art Gallery

In lieu of an open-house roundup—which haven’t started up again yet—here are some noteworthy properties that have just come on the market.

Who needs Epcot? 736 Toro Canyon Road ($8 million) is a Small World of its own, a seven-acre lot with a two-bedroom house, two guest cottages, a U-shaped gallery, and a long list of sourcing credits: “a Baroque fountain from an Austrian monastery circa 1680, French Empire lamps from 1810, an 1880 French statue at the courtyard entrance, and beautiful iron doors with two Danish crowns from the Queen Schakenborg Castle.” And “a handmade, Swedish fireplace from 1800 […] wooden walnut tree floors from a castle in Austria […] gallery copper doors from the State Bank in Sweden” and lamps “from the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark.” P.S. There’s no explanation as to why the monks appear in the listing photos, unless that’s what “flexible for many different lifestyles and needs” means.

If you’re willing to do a bit of work, you could really make 1572 Green Lane ($3.15 million) shine. The 1927 house is small, with a quirky floor plan, but the location—at the end of one of the best streets in the Hedgerow—is superb. It’s priced to move fast.

908 Walnut Avenue ($1.45 million) in Carpinteria comprises a three-bedroom 1923 house in front and a one-bedroom 1950s bungalow in back. Both have been redone in a fresh, contemporary style. The listing says that zoning allows for a third unit, although I can’t quite see where it would go.

52 Olive Mill Road ($2.33 million) is well off the street but right on the train tracks. A small price to pay for easy beach access and a lovely outdoor shower?

················

The best thing about the cute 1940s cottage at 3531 Los Pinos Drive ($1.499 million) in San Roque is the renovated kitchen, followed by the laundry room. Bathrooms appear not to have made the to-do list, alas.
