Nordstrom announced that 16 of its stores will shutter by August, including the one in Santa Barbara’s Paseo Nuevo mall. Given the state of retail even before the Covid-19 nightmare, this can hardly come as a shock—except perhaps to Paseo Nuevo, which assured everyone just last week that “Nordstrom isn’t going anywhere.” Now, along with the former Macy’s (below), the mall has two cavernous spaces to contend with, and no obvious tenants on the horizon.
