New Wunderkind on the Block

A year and a half after opening in Montecito’s Upper Village, Wunderkind has expanded to Coast Village Road, converting the former optometry office next to Tre Lune into a boutique. The space is three times as large as the original store, and the merchandise—apparel, accessories, jewelry, sunglasses, and more—is decidedly more casual, which is not to say it’s inexpensive. “This is all stuff you’d wear during the day,” founder Philip Manghisi, who designed the shop himself. “The Upper Village is more for if you’re dressing up for an event. There will be no jeans there.”

The new shop also carries menswear. I asked Manghisi to name five brands that are indicative of the Wunderkind aesthetic. For womenswear, he chose Alanui, Courrèges, The Elder Statesman, Eterne, and Moreau, and for menswear, he chose Alanui, Bottega Veneta, Greg Lauren, God’s True Cashmere, and Missoni. The inventory is ever-changing, of course, and a permanent sign is in the works. Go check it out—and tell them Siteline sent you.
