••• Mother Dough Bagels is throwing a soft-opening celebration this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon (or whenever it sells out), at its new shop (604 Santa Barbara Street, between Cota and Ortega). “Barbareño will have their smoker fired up, serving slow-smoked tri-tip and grilled avocados on our sourdough bagels, and Coastal Coffee Collective will be brewing free coffee and miso caramel lattes.” The shop will then close for a week to iron out the kinks. “We’re hoping to grand-open the following Saturday and then have regular hours moving forward,” says cofounder Jennifer Gonzalez-Neely.
••• The Chapala/De La Guerra location of Kyle’s Kitchen has closed. The outgoing voicemail message says that the company is looking for a new spot.
••• “Starting next week we will have a full bar!” posted Alma Fonda Fina. “New cocktail menu coming soon….”
••• Dawn Patrol has closed, reports Restaurant Guy. That location is rough, and it makes much more sense combined with the adjacent 330 State—which, intriguingly, is no longer on the market. Could the plan for a music venue there be getting revived?
••• More on The Ellwood, shooting for a January 22 opening. —Noozhawk
••• I finally got to the Sando Truck, parked outside the Paradise Springs Winery tasting room in the Funk Zone. The pork katsu sandwich was delicious, and while I made a lunch out of it, an egg salad sandwich, and a yuzu-flavored sparking water, I could also see the sandwiches serving as a tasty accompaniment to a little wine tasting. N.B. The Sando Truck is closed through January 12.
