••• The effort to save the Sweet Wheel Summerland Farm from development was successful! Is there anything this community can’t do when it puts its mind/money to it?
••• New from McConnell’s: dairy-free ice cream, with an oat-milk base. The stores are currently scooping Cookies & Cream and Passion Fruit Lemon Swirl flavors, with more to arrive monthly, and all six flavors can be bought online.
••• The Vons supermarket on Coast Village Road in Montecito is being reflagged as a Pavilions store; both brands are owned by Albertsons’s. (Perhaps it was feeling the heat from the new Bristol Farms and expanded Gelson’s.) If the poster at the door is any indication, the experience might not be all that different—are we really supposed to get excited about Boar’s Head?—but the change does involve a remodel, which is welcome news. Construction should start in the fall and run into next year, and the store will remain open in the interim.
••• As a soft opening, Meiners Heritage Table in Ojai is now serving Sunday brunch (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and it’s doing occasional other events, too. Follow the restaurant on Instagram for details.
••• I finally made it to the full opened Bree’osh at De La Vina Street and Alamar Avenue, where I was delighted to learn that the bakery/café will be taking over the space next door, including the bounteous terrace—which will come in very handy when the city starts reclaiming parklets.
