Mexican Seafood Restaurant to Open Next to the Granada Theatre

••• Restaurant Guy reports that Yona Redz is opening a Mexican seafood restaurant “next to the Granada Theatre,” which the Yona Redz folks confirmed is the former Bedda Mia space at 1218 State Street. UPDATE 1/7: Meredith says that there’s a sign in the window of the former Brasil Arts Café space (1230 State) saying that the restaurant will actually be there, so I changed the photo above.

••• Bruxie, the chicken-and-waffles chain coming to Paseo Nuevo, opens today. UPDATE: E. says the restaurant didn’t open as planned. UPDATE 1/4: It opened today.

••• Secret Bao is on a break through January 16.

••• Something called Indian Tandoori Kingdom has a beer-and-wine license pending for the former Oppi’z space at 1026 State Street (Figueroa/Carrillo).

••• A fire broke out in a wall at Rory’s Place in Ojai last week: “We’re figuring out what this means for the whole Rory’s Place family right now. We’ll post updates as we get them. But for now, we are closed to assess/repair/rebuild. Hoping for a swift process, both for our team and for our community! Cross your fingers it’s only a few weeks.” Here’s hoping the restaurant gets back on its feet soon.

••• A rep for Uptown Lounge in San Roque emailed to say that the bar has quietly reopened, with a grand opening planned for January 6. I asked whether anything has changed, and got this response: “It’s a new investor group. We several local investors that wanted to have a local bar/lounge to serve the neighborhood. We have completed a small remodel making the interior a little ‘nicer.’ We are bringing back live music and are very excited to also bring back some of the previous staff that are happy to be ‘back home.'” Thanks to the reader sent in a couple of photos.

The New Mexican seafood place sounds good. Does anyone know if Bibi Ji’s is still moving up to that block of State street? I think it was reported they were going into the old MacDonalds.

Yes, it’s moving to the McDonald’s space. Look for it to open this spring.

Bruxie sounds great and it’s round the corner from my work – I’ll give it a few days to bed in but I feel fried chicken and waffles might be in my lunch futures next week.

The question no-one is asking but I desperately want to know is will 2024 be the year that Everytable finally opens?

FYI Yona Redz has a sign in the former Brazil Arts that says it is opening Mariscos, not the Bedda Mia spot. So excited.

Would love it if Ramon would offer some Corazon favorites at his new place in Montecito. Public market is great but has become super busy and chaotic.

Fixed it, thanks. All three storefronts in the building are labeled “1230 State” in my database….
