••• Mate Gallery’s men’s shop, next door to the original, opens this Thursday “with a holiday cocktail toast—stop by on Dec 12 from 5-7 p.m. for music, gifting, and small bites.”
••• MarBorg says it has a “new and free textile recycling drop-off program […] accepting clean rags, scarp cloth, clothing, purses, backpacks, and shoes (matching pairs only—tie together if possible),” if it’s clean and dry. Unfortunately, the two locations are both out west: 4430 Calle Real (weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and 20 David Love Place in Goleta (Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
••• From the Los Padres Forest Association: “Earlier this year the LPFA formally adopted a 2-mile stretch of Hwy 33 that passes the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center. Each month we meet to clean another section of the highway and you’d be amazed at how much garbage, trash and other unknowns we dig out from behind the guardrails, within the turnouts and areas leading to Matilija Creek. […] While perhaps not as glamorous as trail work, cleaning the highway does generate a similar ‘sense of accomplishment high’ that resonates for hours after stacking up those white trashbags on the side of the road. You should join us sometime! Adopt-A-Highway dates are posted on our Facebook Events page, hope to see you out there and be sure to wave at the new AAH signs along Hwy 33.”
••• For the first time, the Montecito Planning Commission is meeting in Montecito. It’s at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, at Montecito Union School. The point is mainly to introduce the MPC and its process to locals.
••• Maybe names really are destiny.
