Lighthouse Skate Shop Is Leaving the Funk Zone

••• Lighthouse Skate Shop is moving out of its distinctive Funk Zone location—where it has been since 2016—and up to 907 State Street (Canon Perdido/Carrillo), reports Caitlin Hensel of Hayes Commercial Group. The new location should be ready in the next month or so.

••• Press release: “A new trail at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden not only offers access to areas not previously open to the public, but also features panoramic views of Mission Canyon, downtown Santa Barbara, and the Channel Islands. The 1.3-mile round trip, out-and-back trail leads to the Garden’s highest point (873 feet) and the site of an active weather station, passing through several ecological habitats currently undergoing native plant restoration. Access to the Garden’s Tipton Trail officially opens on November 17 […] and is free with Garden admission. Reservations are required for Garden admittance.”

••• SwingPath Golf Club has opened at 417 Santa Barbara Street, the complex with Renegade Wines and Organic Soup Kitchen. From the website: “Think of SwingPath Golf Club as a country club membership where the practice range, chipping area, putting green, clubhouse and multiple courses are all tucked into an enclosed golf simulator cage for you to enjoy whenever it suits you. Book a time to work on your short game, long game, play 9 or 18 with a few friends, have your instructor join you, use the Trackman Camera App to connect with the simulator and record your session, bring your own food and drinks or order in, put a game on the big screen or play some tunes.”

••• The Bar Method‘s studio at 1101 Anacapa Street opens Friday, November 8.

••• SBIFF’s Film Center, in the former Fiesta Five cineplex at 916 State Street (Canon Perdido/Carrillo), will start screenings on November 15. The first few films include Bird, Dahomey, The Piano Lesson, a Federico Fellini retrospective (, Amarcord, I Vitelloni, Juliet of the Spirits, La Dolce Vita, La Strada, and Nights of Cabiria), and some family films.

••• Carpinteria’s cannabis farms are hosting public tours on November 15 and 16.

••• Brace yourself: ten miles of Highway 101 are slated for construction for two and a half years, starting at the end of next year. “Caltrans invites the public to attend a virtual information meeting for the Santa Barbara Highway 101 Corridor Improvements Project on Wednesday, November 13, at 6 p.m. The purpose of the project is to extend the service life and improve the ride quality of just over ten miles of existing pavement from just [north] of the Milpas Street undercrossing to the Fairview Avenue overcrossing. The Caltrans project team will make a presentation and answer any questions from the public.”

••• The former Indian Pink shop at 1307 State Street (Victoria/Sola) is now Canvas, where Karen Johnson—who has had stores in Northern California—is stocking women’s apparel, jewelry, home decor, vintage, and a little bit of whatever catches her eye.
