Goleta Is Reducing Speed Limits on Most Major Streets

••• “California State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant approved a key pipeline-corrosion-control plan submitted by the Sable Offshore oil company on December 17 that’s absolutely pivotal in the company’s long-range efforts to reactivate not just the pipeline—which ruptured and spilled about 450,000 gallons of crude in 2015—but for restarting production at what used to be ExxonMobil’s massive oil and gas operations in Las Flores Canyon. […] State Assemblymember Gregg Hart and State Senator Monique Limón have both expressed keen disappointment in how the decision was made, coming 13 days after the California Fire Marshal had given them both strict assurances no such decision would be released until he’d first held a public meeting in Santa Barbara to hear concerns from community members. That meeting did not happen and has been tentatively postponed until sometime after January 1.” —Independent

••• Sandpiper Golf Club ran an ad in the Independent claiming that it will be “forced to close”—what, is owner Ty Warner running out of money?—if Goleta city officials don’t start moving its renovation permits along.

••• “Another Santa Barbara County Superior Court judge has come under scrutiny for alleged unprofessional conduct. The Commission on Judicial Performance has instituted formal proceedings to inquire into matters concerning Judge Michael J. Carrozzo, who has been a sitting Judge since June 2014. […] The Commission’s report stated Judge Carrozzo presented himself as an attorney for Sara Eklund, his judicial secretary, on several occasions between 2018 and 2020. Apparently Judge Carrozzo negotiated with Eklund’s car insurance company relating to a traffic accident, threatened to sue a mattress company for nondelivery, assisted with a letter to Eklund’s landlord during a dispute with a rental deposit, and assisted with a document during her divorce proceedings.” —Edhat

Perhaps Sandpiper will close and the site can be used for a public park and affordable housing instead. How nice would that be.

They will never build affordable housing there. Too nice a view to “waste” on those who aren’t billionaires.

Hundreds of miles of public beaches, 3000 square miles of National Forest, multiple State parks, dozens of county and city parks, all availably to a population of <300k, and you want to replace a popular, healthy, open space that generates millions in tax revenue and is enjoyed by 10's of thousands of people annually with low income housing onto what is essentially an old oil exploration toxic fund site?

You're the problem. It's you.
