••• The agenda for Monday’s meeting of the city’s Board of Architectural Review includes this: “Proposal for a façade remodel for the Gelson’s in Loreto Plaza. Project entails creating a new western entrance with detailing to match the existing eastern entrance. The maximum height of the new entrance will increase from 20’-2” to 26’-8”. Project also includes new outdoor seating. No increase in floor area is proposed.” Below: Elevations of the existing facade (top) and the proposed changes.
••• The Santa Barbara Bowl announced its third show of the 2020 season: Stick Figure on May 29. Sometimes I feel like they intentionally program around my taste.
••• Anyway, that was the first I’d ever heard of Stick Figure, and it reminded me of Aldous Snow, Russell Brand’s character from Get Him to the Greek. Coincidentally, I’m sure, Brand will be at the Lobero Theatre on February 12 with “a funny and profane exploration into personal development and wellness from a comedian who has dedicated himself to spirituality to avoid self-destruction. This 90-minute experience will introduce you to the system that saved his life, continues to save his sanity and will work for anyone who is willing to commit to it.”
••• More to my taste is Brittany Howard of the band Alabama Shakes, who should tear the roof off the Arlington Theatre on March 18.
