First Impressions of Mother Dough Bagels

••• I finally made it inside Mother Dough Bagels—on previous attempts, I was stymied by the line out the door. The restaurant was packed, which meant (a) I couldn’t easily take photos of the adorable space, and (b) I ate my bagel while sitting on a wall nearby. (There are picnic tables on the south side, but every toddler and baby in town was there during my visit.) The operation seems to be running very smoothly, and I kept thinking how this is the kind of stylish little food business I wish Santa Barbara had more of. My only note on the satisfying gravlax bagel is that I’d prefer the capers embedded into the cream cheese, because one bite and they roll right off the salmon.

••• Alma Fonda Fina is now serving breakfast seven days a week. The menu is fairly limited; here’s hoping the huevos rancheros are as good as at Corazón Comedor. (Also, guacamole for breakfast—why not?) And if you haven’t been to Alma for lunch in a while, the midday menu is heavier on tacos and enchiladas these days.

same! savoy is perfect as is. Best salad bar, chicken Marsala, choc chip cookies, and so much more. Just good vibes.
