Fast-Casual Farm-to-Table Restaurant Opening Soon in Carpinteria

••• The Good Plow, coming to the former Foster’s Freeze space in Carpinteria, announced that it plans on opening in July. A help-wanted ad describes the restaurant as “fast casual, organic, farm to table” with a “focus on delivering healthy and insanely delicious food, niche beers, natural wines, and organic soft serve in a clean, contemporary setting with exceptional service.” The proprietors are Katherine and Jason Lesh of Farm Cart Organics and the Better Bucket composting service.

••• Pete asked whether Barb’s Pies might be popping up elsewhere now that Rascal’s is taking over the kitchen at Venus in Furs. I asked and they said not at this time, and then they posted a farewell on Instagram.

••• El Encanto invited Noozhawk and the Independent for a free lunch and a chat with new-ish chef Bruno Lopez.

••• A random recommendation: I typically avoid the prepared-food section of supermarkets, but my husband and I have become fans of the chocolate mousse at Bristol Farms—it’s pretty darn good. It’s in the refrigerated case to the left as you enter the store.

••• 805 Foodie profiles the Ojai Community Farmers’ Market that recently started up on Thursday afternoons: “More than three-quarters of the 45 vendors who have signed on to appear at the market are from the Ojai Valley [….] Vendors include Churchill Orchard of Ojai, Frecker Farms of Carpinteria, Kandarian Organic Farms of Los Osos and Wildfire Meat Co. of the Ojai Valley.”

••• Spiffy new signage at Alessia Patisserie & Cafe, opening imminently on E. Canon Perdido.

BTW, another little tip. Seems like the Hibachi on corner of State / Haley is having construction work done on it now. New hiring sign (I think?) up with old letter head for Something Fishy. Also thought Institution Ales new side patio was going to be open by June 15th but doesn’t look like it.

Christine!

Thanks for the choco mousse tip- live in SYV, but find myself in dt SB once to twice a month- have enjoyed Via Maestra 42 and Metropolis Cafe of late- both above and beyond service coupled with delicious lunch options. Cheers
