El Encanto Wants to Build Two More Swimming Pools

••• The Hearth Homes interior-design firm has added two properties to its collection of “stays,” Airbnb-style accommodations with no on-site staff. First, the firm took over the five-room White Jasmine Inn on Bath Street (Victoria/Sola), gave it an attractive makeover, and renamed it The Craft House Inn. Now it has bought the eight-room De La Vina Inn (Victoria/Sola), which will also be redesigned and likely renamed. The properties offer culinary upgrades from Barbareño chef Julian Martinez, brother of Hearth’s Olivia Wahler. The interior photos are of the Craft House Inn, and the exterior is the De La Vina Inn.

••• El Encanto is proposing to build two swimming pools and a valet kiosk, according to a notice spotted by I. We’ll learn more about the size and location of the pools on Friday, when the Historic Landmarks Commission agenda is released.

••• The Carlyle Salon on lower Chapala has expanded into the former Chapala & Parker space next door. From the release: “The Corner Room is a tastefully designed private suite primarily dedicated for bridal parties, yet also available for an array of innovative and exclusive events. […] The room is equipped with four salon chairs, several make-up stations, cozy couches, a small conference table, separate changing room and an elegant beverage bar with mini-fridge, espresso maker, tea service, and all the fixings for a celebration. It’s an stress-free environment that also allows photographers to capture beautiful pre-wedding prep photos. Yet it’s not just brides who can benefit. [Owner Lisa] Gaede’s plans for the space include pop-up shops featuring the wares of local artisans, including clothing, jewelry, custom hats, and skincare. The space will also host complementary workshops and even offer discounted rental availability to local nonprofits in need of meeting space.” Photo by Amber Dolyak.

••• Iyengar Yoga Studio has left De La Vina Street, and a sign on the door says it will reopen next month at 22F N. Milpas (Mason/Quinientos), which appears to be behind Your Place restaurant.

••• Treasured Estates is running an estate sale in Los Olivos this weekend. I always like looking through the description to see what I’d buy….

••• The 49th Planned Parenthood Book Sale is September 14-24 at the Earl Warren Exhibit Hall.

What beautiful upgrades by Hearth. I hope long term they’ll consider swapping out the white plastic windows with fake divided light for something worthy of the rest of the work they’ve done! These types of windows are really degrading the architectural integrity of our town and I recoil seeing them on historic buildings especially. Anyway I was wondering what would happen with these properties so this is a nice update.

Thank you! We agree completely about the windows. That was an element inherited from the previous owner, and we’re already in process getting them swapped out for wood windows.

Anytime I see the name El Encanto it’s a trigger. As the head gardener from 1991 to 2001 I had the best job in Santa Barbara. But two new pools? I would rather they bulldoze a few buildings and replant the gardens from my time. Also, I have vivid dreams and I’m back at EE but I’m in my uniform from 1999.
