Bouchon Bakery Is Opening at the Biltmore

••• Clark’s Oyster Bar will open this month (in the old Cava on Coast Village Road), according to an ad in the Montecito Journal’s quarterly magazine.

••• And buried in an article in that magazine is the news that the former hair salon at the Four Seasons Biltmore resort will become an outpost of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery brand. Given the off-street location, I’ll be interested to see the degree to which locals frequent it (aside from residents across the street willing to pay hotel-inflated prices).

••• After I posted about the new restaurant coming to the former Via Vai space in the Upper Village, Luca Crestanelli clarified that while he is involved in the new project, his partners at S.Y. Kitchen are not. As for what we can expect, he said, “The core idea is doing what we do best. Simple dishes [including pizza] made with high quality ingredients. A relaxed and vibrant atmosphere. Comfortable space. Good wine. Good service. Hopefully we can get a liquor license.”

••• Congratulations to Motley Crew Marketplace for finally opening in Buellton after a particularly arduous process. It’s in the same strip as Na Na Thai, with “local farm goods, cheeses, meats, dried goods, and more”; hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

••• The plan for the next incarnation of the Palms building in Carpinteria now includes a market/café on the ground floor (to go with a casual restaurant on the same floor and “chef’s kitchen” concept above), which tracks with what the owners have done at their One White Street restaurant in New York City.  —Coastal View News

••• “Haas’s Fine Ice Cream, which will be serving McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream, is coming to 3987 State Street (Five Points Shopping Center),” next to Little Alex’s. So whose fine ice cream is it, really? —Restaurant Guy

••• Santa Ynez’s Queen Cup Coffee has opened an offshoot (called Caravan) in a trailer outside the Clementine Carter Wines tasting room in Los Alamos.
