••• Cannabis store Beyond/Hello has opened at 3516 State Street in San Roque, where Golden State Greens was slated to be. Each new one tries to be more clinical than the last. What a long way we’ve come from the head shops of yore….
••• “What’s the scoop on the road construction on Modoc by Las Positas?” asked W. “I know they put in some water lines on the train-track side but now the other side of the road is all cut up/graveled/coned off.” I didn’t go take a look because I’m lazy trying to save gas, and also I’m 99% sure this is the construction of the Las Positas/Modoc Road Multiuse (i.e., bike/pedestrian) Path.
••• The new gallery in the former Ambiance space on Coast Village Road is Caldwell Snyder, which has outposts in San Francisco and Napa Valley. Contrary to my first impression, it appears not to be a pop-up. The sculpture outside is a welcome touch.
••• 749 San Ysidro Road, a 12.77-acre lot in prime Montecito, just came on the market for $62 million. I’ll write more on that in the next roundup of new listings, but worth drawing attention to now: the property tax in 2020 is a mere $12,729, because the same owner had it for four decades. I’ll say it again: California desperately needs residential property tax reform.
••• The Montecito Trails Foundation is holding pop-ups this Friday (10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside Via Vai) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Montecito Bank & Trust on Coast Village Road), where you can pick up some merch. Love the shirt with trail names, and here’s hoping there’s a non-distressed cap in the future….
