••• A hostel called Social Stays has opened at 730 State Street (Ortega/De La Guerra); the listing on Booking.com touts the location as being “close to Santa Barbara City College, Brooks Institute of Photography and Granada Theatre,” but good luck finding the Brooks Institute. Rates start at $109, and from what I can tell, there are 16 beds.
••• Apparel brand Alo Yoga has added 821 State Street (De La Guerra/Canon Perdido) to its portfolio of stores around the world.
••• And Kariella—”a modern bohemian Ojai lifestyle brand”—is opening a pop-up nearby (833 State Street) as soon as this Friday. It’ll have apparel for women and men.
••• Brad Nack‘s annual sale of reindeer art is this Thursday (November 21) at Restaurant Roy. You know his work from this mural in the Funk Zone.
••• Studio X Sculpt Pilates has rebranded as Solos Pilates Studio FItness.
••• The Ducati/Vespa dealership at 17 W. Montecito Street has closed, and a sign on the door says it’ll reopen somewhere (but not where). A 44-room hotel is in the works for that spot.
••• Two more Santa Barbara Bowl shows have been announced: Jack White (May 15) and Goo Goo Dolls and Dashboard Confessional (September 6). I haven’t been paying attention to what White has been up to lately, and there are many worthy White Stripes songs I could embed here, but I’m especially fond of his work with Loretta Lynn. They developed a bond working together, and if you enjoy “Portland Oregon,” you might also find White’s performance of her autobiographical “Van Lear Rose” at a memorial tribute incredibly moving.
