••• From Union Pacific (boldface mine):
Union Pacific will be replacing rail along various stretches of the railroad tracks in Oxnard, Ventura, Carpinteria, Goleta and Santa Barbara. This work is necessary maintenance to maintain the safe operation of passenger and freight service. Approximately 40 miles of track will be replaced along this corridor.
During construction activities, you will hear construction equipment and back up beepers as well as additional horn sounding from the trains traveling through the maintenance areas. Beepers and horn use is required by law during maintenance activities. There will also be bright lights used along the areas to illuminate work areas.
Maintenance activities will begin January 6, 2021 and crews will work from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Unfortunately this work could not be done during daylight hours due to passenger service on this corridor which cannot establish bus bridges due to the pandemic. Work crews will work 8 days and then take a 6 day break. Then will return and work 8 more days.
Crews will normally work from Tuesday–Tuesday but will initially begin on Wednesday (January 6) due to the Holiday.
