California Will Allow More Businesses to Reopen Next Week

••• “California will allow schools, day camps, bars, gyms, campgrounds and professional sports to begin reopening with modifications starting next Friday,” but details have yet to be released. “The state’s guidance will also include rules on hotels, casinos, museums, zoos and aquariums and the resumption of music, film and television production. […] Nail salons will not be included in the list.” —KEYT

••• “Delta Air Lines is suspending service to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport and 10 other cities in the U.S. as it works to cut costs in the wake of Covid-19. Delta has been flying from Salt Lake City to Santa Barbara, which is the only tri-county airport that Delta serves. It is also the only airport in California that Delta is suspending flights at.” —Pacific Coast Business Times

••• “Nearly 1,000 people marched from De la Guerra Plaza to Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara on Saturday for a march and rally that included the Santa Barbara Police Department. […] The event served as a stark contrast to last Sunday’s Black Lives Matter protest and rally [….] This time, police officers did not wear riot gear or put up police tape to guard the police station. Instead, police officers on motorcycles led the march along State Street all the way to the dolphin fountain and embraced the protest.” —Noozhawk

••• “A Santa Barbara memorial for George Floyd took to the ocean on Saturday morning as hundreds participated in a ‘CommUnity’ Paddle Out at Leadbetter Beach to pay respects to the man who was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis last week and to support the Black Lives Matter movement. An estimated 250 participants of all ages grabbed surfboards, stand-up paddle boards, boogie boards, surf skis and kayaks, floated out about 150 yards off shore and formed a large circle.” —Noozhawk (and the photos at top and below are by Blake Bronstad, who is selling prints of them and others from the rally, with proceeds going to a Black Lives Matter organization).
