Semana Nautica and Reef & Run Have Been Canceled

••• KEYT reports on the changed atmosphere of the swath of State Street that’s closed to cars through August, but says that it “was done without much or any review or public input and that’s led to emails and calls to City Hall.” The only non-politician named in the piece as having issues with it is Anna Marie Gott, who famously resists change of any kind. Still, the point holds that the city has to figure out a way to deal with aggressive bicyclists and come up with rules about exactly what space shops and restaurants can co-opt.

••• “On Tuesday (June 2), the [county Board of Supervisors] will consider a 5-0 recommendation from the county Planning Commission to require stricter zoning permits, known as conditional use permits, or CUPs, for all cannabis cultivation and processing. The supervisors’ decision is significant because, at least in theory, conditional use permits would set a higher bar for cannabis operators, requiring them, for example, to avoid pesticide conflicts with neighboring vintners and avocado growers and prevent the eye-watering, skunk-like stench of marijuana plants from drifting into homes and wine tasting rooms.” This industry has to be stopped before it ruins the county. —Newsmakers
