••• Two shops have debuted at The Post, the new retail complex where Las Aves was: New York City–based womenswear brand Merlette and L.A.’s The Optimist (shown here), a menswear boutique carrying multiple brands. More will follow in the run-up to The Post’s holiday fair on December 15—”a holiday marketplace with nine vendors, food pop-ups, seasonal treats (cookies!) and hot cocoa, complimentary kid’s activities, a wreath-making workshop,” and more. (Who’s coming so far.) Go check the property out—it’s looking great.
••• The U.S. Bank branch next to Pavilions on Coast Village Road will close February 26. The space is owned by the same entity as the Montecito Country Mart—so don’t be surprised if the next tenant(s) are more along the lines of what you see there. The liquor/wine part of Pavilions is also technically part of the Country Mart, but I wouldn’t expect that to change anytime soon.
••• Elsewhere in the Country Mart, as we already knew, the Clare V. shop is expanding into Mate Gallery’s old space next door; look for the new, larger shop to open in early December.
••• Laura Dinning is moving her Allora by Laura boutique from Coast Village Road to Nashville. It’s closing March 1; before then, “we’ll be having our normal holiday parties and trunk shows […] and our winter sale begins in January as per usual.”
••• The big Faherty store at 1155 Coast Village Road will open December 6.
••• According to the most recent Highway 101 construction update, the Butterfly Lane pedestrian undercrossing will be off-limits December 2-23: “an open grate in the ceiling […] will be closed to enable freeway widening. Crews will build a solid concrete closure for the tunnel ceiling.”
••• Architect Jeff Shelton announced a new project on Bradbury Avenue—a one-block street west of Chapala—that should begin construction in late spring. “We ended up remodeling the existing building, adding a primary residence [the green one pictured below] and designing a small two-story Accessory Dwelling Unit.”
