Derf’s Café Is Closing After 47 Years

The future of Derf’s Café, uncertain for over a year, is now clear: the restaurant is closing after 47 years. The exact date is unknown, but it sounds imminent, according to a Facebook post by staffer Brenda Roman: “Join us Tuesday, June 4, from 5 p.m. to close to help us celebrate the Derf’s legacy before we say farewell.” Derf’s and the Farmacy cannabis shop are on the same lot at De La Vina and Mission, and the owner is an LLC affiliated with the owner of Farmacy’s parent company, Glass House Brands. I’ll try asking the company’s plans what its might be.

Derf’s will be missed! My mom & I went all the time in the 80’s for their wonderful cheeseburger & fries. Thank you for the good times????

I believe I worked at 1129 with “Derf”-his last name was Derflinger I think. He left and opened Derf’’s in maybe mid to late 70’s.

I was a busboy at Derfs for about a year 1980 or so. Never met Dean , I think they said he was away in the big house but i heard he’s a good dude. Loved working there and the people were great !

I’ve been coming to Derfs since I was a child and the staff here are family. This iconic SB spot will be missed and the people will be missed.

One of my favorite places in SB for lunch with. the children and friends for years & years. If it reopens as a restaurant, I doubt I will eat there- too many memories as a wonderful place with local atmosphere. And with the increase in prices to pay the new lease prices, I
and my friends will have lunch at other local places.
Good bye to Derf’s
