Change in Plans for the Fess Parker Hotel Coming to Cabrillo

••• The 6,181-square-foot 857 Picacho Lane, priced to be snapped up at $5.7 million, sold for $5.433 million.

••• “The San Ysidro Trail will be closed starting [this] morning as we work on the switchbacks above the Waterfall,” reports the Montecito Trails Foundation. (According to the graphic, the trail is only closed above the Catway, so you could still use the San Ysidro Trail to get to McMenemy, Buena Vista, etc.) “We never want to have to close a trail for work, however, the switchbacks create a unique and dangerous situation for recreational trail users while we are working. The trail will be opened up at the end of each workday around 4 p.m. The trail will be marked with closure signs and a spotter will be on deck. We realize this is a disappointment for some of you, and were apologize. The upside, we are making incredible progress on the San Ysidro Trail. This is the last full restoration project in the wake of the Thomas Fire/Debris Flow.”

••• Another great Montecito memento ($145) from Mate Gallery.

••• The agenda for the April 20 meeting of the city’s Architectural Board of Review includes “a new 104-space parking lot, a carport structure supporting photo-voltaic panels over 8 parking spaces, and landscaping” at 103 S. Calle Cesar Chavez. “The project would provide valet parking for the proposed hotel on the adjacent site to the south at 433 East Cabrillo Boulevard, and it replaces the prior approved project for a back-of-house hotel operations building and smaller valet parking lot. The habitat restoration of El Estero drain on the site has been completed.” The hotel, coming to the lot next to Chase Palm Park, was news to me, as I only recently started paying attention to this stuff. From Noozhawk in May 2019: “A three-story luxury resort planned for 3 acres of waterfront land on 433 E. Cabrillo Boulevard is scheduled to break ground in 2020. The announcement comes via the Robert Green Company, a real estate development company that partnered with Fespar Enterprises [i.e., the Fess Parker family] to move forward with the development. The hotel will have 60 ‘well-appointed guest rooms with a generous number of suites,’ a restaurant and bar, meeting space, outdoor function space, and rooftop pool deck and bar.”

••• The midcentury house at 1988 Inverness Lane in Birnam Wood that came on the market in February for $3.2 million (subsequently dropped to $2.95 million) is now for rent for $9,950 per month.
