••• Calling all creative types: “A design competition is now open for natural playhouse Casitas to be installed in Santa Barbara Botanic Garden’s Backcountry area, which encourages kids to explore nature and enjoy unstructured play. The three new Casitas will replace three of the five playhouses that debuted when the 4.5-acre Backcountry opened in 2022. Each of the structures are installed for six months up to two years. ••• A ketamine clinic called Lucid Therapeutics is opening at 111 331 N. Milpas Street (Mason/Yanonali). From the press release: “Lucid Therapeutics is dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of psychedelic-assisted therapies in a safe, legal, and therapeutic context. The clinic currently offers ketamine-assisted therapy, an FDA-approved dissociative anesthetic that has been shown to effectively treat depression and other mental health conditions. It is currently the only legally available psychedelic drug. ••• Speaking of psychedelic experiences, ZooLights is back at the Santa Barbara Zoo from November 15 through January 14.

••• Press release from the city: “The City of Santa Barbara will hold two public meetings on November 2 and 8 regarding the Cabrillo-Los Patos Roundabout Project. […] The November 2 meeting will be held virtually and the November 8 meeting will be held at the Palm Park Beach House in Santa Barbara. The new roundabout [rendering below] will bring much-needed improvements and allow for safer travel for all modes of transportation along E. Cabrillo Boulevard. New features also include updated crosswalks with traffic islands and a landscaped center island. A striped pedestrian and bicycle lane will be installed along northbound Channel Drive. A new left turn lane will be installed from southbound Cabrillo Boulevard to Channel Drive. […] Construction for Phase 1 is funded and scheduled to begin in the winter of 2023-2024. The City and SBCAG are seeking funding for Phase 2 of the larger project which will include the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge replacement and closure of the Los Patos Way Underpass.”

••• From the recent Highway 101 construction update: “The new northbound on-ramp at N. Padaro Lane will open November 9” and, regarding the Summerland section between Sheffield and N. Padaro, “crews are finishing up work on pavement surfaces and lane striping. Please note that the new carpool lanes will be striped and opened with the completion of the Padaro segment. Additional details will be included in the next Construction Update.”

••• Opening November 2 at Maune Contemporary: Piscinas, paintings by Columbian artist Esteban Ocampo-Giraldo. It’s his “first solo exhibition in California and features both his large- and small-scale original oils on canvas. Known for combining contemporary pop and realism, the artist captures icons of summer nostalgia like whimsical floats, bold-striped umbrellas, and relaxing chaises.”
