••• Do you ever have those dreams where you discover a door in your home that leads to a whole wing you didn’t know existed? That’s how I felt upon entering Santa Ynez General‘s original location—there’s also an apparel annex down the street and an outpost at the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern—which has expanded from 1,200 square feet to 2,700 square feet. The shop seems to go on and on, allowing it to move beyond just home decor and into lifestyle in general. Shelves are still getting filled up, but it’s worth a look now for a pop-up display of gorgeous little things sourced by Dorian Voyageur (I wish I had bought those arm hooks), Daniel Weiss‘s baskets woven from pine needles, and vinyl curated by Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
••• While the Olive Mill roundabout isn’t completed, you can now drive around the circle instead of dealing with all those stop signs, and it’s a massive improvement.
••• Pilates & Or fitness studio—which people I know love even though (or because?) the workouts can be very hard—is moving to 220 W. Canon Perdido Street.
••• You know the big red shoe by the side of Highway 101? Sharon commented about how it came to be: “10 years ago August my best friend was celebrating a milestone bday. I had been with her somewhere and we had seen a giant red stiletto shoe. She got such a kick out of it, her husband had one made a surprise for her party. Sadly, he broke his hip the night before its debut so it went into storage and eventually on the street for disposal!” The rest of the story is in the link above.
••• Once again, UCSB Arts & Lectures will screen free movies outside the county courthouse on Friday nights this summer; the series starts July 7 and runs through August 25.

••• E. asked for an update on the Santa Barbara Polo Villas, a development coming to the 12 acres west of the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. It now has a website, which says there will be “34 homes for sale including 25 Villa homesites ranging from 2,200-3,600+ square feet in size and 9 Casitas approximately 1,300+ square feet in size.” (That differs from the last mention in local media, by the Coastal Views News in March 2021, which said there will be “25 detached single-family homes and 15 condominiums.”) The timeline on the website states that infrastructure work was to start last fall, with home construction starting by now. I’m too lazy to go over and look, so I emailed both the development and the developer, Neil E. Potts of West Bluff Capital, but I didn’t receive a response. I’m sure that’s no indication of how potential buyers will be treated. UPDATE: “Polo Villas are still a pile of dirt,” emailed a reader. “A long way from completion.” So you can ignore the timeline on the project’s website.
