••• CycleBar, which offers spinning classes and has locations all over the country, says on its website that it’s opening at Paseo Nuevo, and when I asked when, I was told that it’s shooting for the fall. (I was subsequently told that the company is “working through lease specifics at the moment, so nothing is 100% set in stone yet,” which sounds a tad disingenuous, given the studio is already being advertised on Instagram.) UPDATE 4/23: CycleBar Santa Barbara posted this on Instagram yesterday: “Mark your calendars—one week from today, Founder’s Memberships go live! Discounted rates on memberships for the first 50 members, and then the price will increase.”
••• Or maybe “the first and only mobile dance class in Santa Barbara” is more your style. Just B‘s first class is on April 27, and the theme appears to be “Heels,” or maybe “S&M Rihanna”? Or maybe that’s the dress code? UPDATE: Cofounder Brittany Sandoval sent over a clarification: “The mobile dance classes are for kids. We bring the class to their house. The adult classes (“S&M” was the song we used one week) are drop-in and in a studio on Olive Street by Arnoldi’s.”
••• This is exciting: Cat Power will play the Lobero on September 9 in support of her most recent album, Covers.
••• The latest Jeff Bezos rumor is that he’s trying to persuade Ty Warner to sell the Biltmore so he can use it as his private residence, which strikes me as unlikely, but who knows what lurks in the heart of a bazillionaire? Previous rumors had Bezos (a) prying the Santa Barbara News-Press from Wendy McCaw’s claws and (b) buying 596 Picacho Lane from Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi, which for all I know may be true, although he seems to be in a Miami Beach phase of life more than a Montecito one….
••• Leslie Person Ryan emailed an update on Letter Perfect‘s next move. (In previous installments, she was about to sell the stationery store, and then it moved to downtown Santa Barbara.)
We are excited to announce that Letter Perfect’s Ink Design & Nature will be moving to an amazingly, adorable retail space with the farm brand Sweet Wheel Farms in Summerland on the main street Lillie Avenue close to the Sweet Wheel Farm cart in the old Lillette space next to Botanik.
We have a wonderful indoor and outdoor space to highlight our farm supplies and food brands including items made from the regenerative Sweet Wheel Summerland farm—mustards, wheat flours, tortillas, and chips. Indoor spaces will showcase stationery, gifts, personalized invitations, tabletop and a local art gallery. We are in the midst of hiring a pastry chef that will knock you socks off! All this under one roof needed a name that encompasses us: Farm to Paper. We take over May 1 and hope to open shop by May 15 with art show opening June 3 and 4.
••• And the answer to exactly where on Summerland’s Lillie Avenue Home Crush will be opening became clear once I drove down the street—it’s at the northwest corner of Olive Street.
••• Steve Gilbar has a new compilation, The Little Book of Montecito Writers, with “mini-biographies of authors with connections to Montecito,” including T.C. Boyle, Sue Grafton, Steve Martin, and Julia Child. (What, no C.J. Tosh?) All profits go to the Montecito Library, and you can pick up a copy at Tecolote Bookshop, Chaucer’s, the Book Den, and Montecito Library.
