••• The roundup of forthcoming restaurants and bars inspired two tips in the comments. First, Coffee Snob reported that “a couple that are in the food business purchased the property where Mackenzie Market was located. Rumor is they paid close to $5 million and they plan to open a restaurant with lots of outdoor seating.” The records I found show that Sarah Dandona recently bought the San Roque building for $1.48 million, then leased it to her catering company, Omni Food Service Management (a.k.a. Omni Catering). Dandona is also the owner of Teddy’s by the Sea in Carpinteria. I all but begged for a detail or two about her plans, to no avail.
••• Second, Peter heard that 102 E. Yanonali in the Funk Zone is becoming another brewery. I couldn’t find anything to confirm that, but the building was just bought by MBB Santa Barbara LLC, established by Michael Bollag. (The $10.35 million purchase includes 202 Anacapa and 111 E. Yanonali.) In the meantime, pop-up art shows have been held there.
••• Crush Bar, the beer-and-wine-bar spinoff of Crushcakes that recently opened off State Street, is positioning itself as a gay bar. General manager Zach Feld explained to Noozhawk: “We hired everyone, and started meeting with everyone, and realized that every member of our staff was queer in one way or another, so we decided to lean into that and be a very safe place for queer folks in town.”

••• Wendy Jones, who once had a cupcake shop called Whodidily on Coast Village Road, is baking again, this time under the name Yodelayheehoo. “Yodelayheehoo first made its debut in Carpinteria at Pacific Health Foods on Mother’s Day, offering a paleo vanilla bean cake at the shop; next, the business is taking its mini-cupcakes to Montecito Deli on June 15, which will carry Jones’ red velvet cupcakes and organic vanilla bean cupcakes, which are vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free.” You can also order directly. —Coastal View News
••• Along with a bunch of barbecue for later from Priedite Barbecue‘s special Father’s Day menu, I ordered one of the smash burgers to wolf down right on the streets of Los Alamos. I am a real estate agent in Santa Barbara and for the past 15 years I am aware of at least 9 buyers that have made offers on that Mackenzie Market property and none were accepted . I was representing a buyer 2.5 years ago that made an offer for substantially more than the 1.48 million.
I think I’m just so surprised/impressed that the buyer closed this deal. There were many challenges on this deal.
