••• Edible Santa Barbara noticed a help-wanted ad for the Daisy, the State Street (Victoria/Anapamu) restaurant that has been closed since the pandemic started—and which many of us feared would never reopen. The owners subsequently confirmed the news and said they’re shooting for the end of the month.
••• Kevin Moore Architect posted that final design board approval has been granted for the revamp of the strip mall at 3441 State Street (Las Positas/S. Ontare) in San Roque, where Union Bank and BYOB Home Brewing Supply are among the current tenants (and where La Rumba Bar & Grill used to be). Evidently, we can expect a “new multi-tenant space in the works featuring coffee, beer/wine and full kitchen”—in other words, along the lines of Kim’s Service Dept. and Waterline, both of which the firm also worked on.
••• Restaurant Guy reports that the former Little Door space at 129 E. Anapamu will become the Courthouse Tavern, from “Warren Butler who is also the Managing Partner at Chase Restaurant & Lounge. Courthouse Tavern will be serving American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and will have Happy Hour all day with drink specials and small plates.” Was I the only one hoping for something more sophisticated for such a pretty building? The tentative opening date is June 15.

Re: Cambria. I had a lot of fun dining at the kitchen bar at the Sea Chest. Got to enjoy the sunset yet be warm inside. The owner was there schmoozing and poured us some wine I’m pretty sure we didn’t pay for. It was very old school in a way that’s getting harder and harder to find these days.
I have had lovely meals at Madeline’s, Robin’s, the Sow’s Ear, the Sea Chest and for the ultimate Cambria experience, the olallieberry pie at Linn’s Restaurant.
Any idea what is going on with Riviera Bar? Did they ever get to open?
Still not open, from what I can tell. I looked inside just last night, and the only thing that was different was a quote misattributed to Ben Franklin posted in the window.
Madeline’s in Cambria has surprisingly sophisticated, delicious food.
The Café has really yummy sandwiches and a quaint little front and back patio.
