The Wayfarer Hotel Has Been Rebranded

••• Warner Group Architects posted a rendering of a new house in the works on Edgecliff Lane, right next to where Eucalyptus Lane hits Miramar Beach: “This property will feature a spacious three-bedroom main house, a private guest house, a relaxing infinity pool, and direct beach access.” When I expressed interest in sharing the image, the firm kindly sent over a couple more.

••• The Wayfarer Hotel in the Funk Zone has become a Marriott property, and it’s been renamed The Waterman. According to a staffer, most of the changes guests will see will come this summer.

••• Village Frame & Gallery, in Montecito’s Upper Village, is closing today.

••• The Hollister store at Paseo Nuevo has opened in the State Street space that was its sister brand, Abercrombie & Fitch. I loved Wikipedia‘s entry on Hollister so much that I’m running it again: From: “Although Hollister Co. was founded in 2000, Abercrombie & Fitch has created a fictional history surrounding its founder. According to this history, John Hollister, Sr. emigrated from New York City to the Dutch East Indies, and established the company bearing his name upon returning to the United States and settling in California in 1922. In actuality, the company was founded in Ohio.”

••• I was surprised by the new sidewalk going in on Hot Springs Road below Sycamore Canyon Road, since Montecito prides itself on its “semi-rural character.” That doesn’t strike has the most useful spot for a sidewalk, since you could enter the Coast Village neighborhood and walk on Butterfly Lane or Middle Road. (Moreover, in my experience bicycling on Olive Mill Road, many residents prefer to walk in the bike lane even when a sidewalk is available.) Also, the asphalt patching between the street and the driveways is pretty unattractive.
