••• At today’s ribbon-cutting for the bridge over San Ysidro Creek—linking San Ysidro Ranch and the San Ysidro Trail trailhead—it was revealed that the bridge cost only around $400,000, and the price would’ve been several hundred thousand dollars more had Montecito Trails Foundation president Ashlee Mayfield not recommended the bridge company to the county’s Public Works Department. (As with the previous bridge, the new one is open only to pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles.)
••• The recent buyer of the three-bedroom penthouse at the Granada Theatre building is offering it for rent, unfurnished, for $12,000 per month. That seems like a pretty good deal. The agent is Samantha Ireland.
••• We’ve already talked about how handsome the new Monterey Colonial building at 214 E. De La Guerra came out. A new(-ish?) banner says Radius Commercial Real Estate will have its offices there.
••• I once gave the Cuyama Buckhorn some grief for there being nothing to do there, but that’s about to change: the pool, Jacuzzi, and “barrel sauna” are opening in mid-February. As I wrote back when I reviewed the property, you really will feel like you’re farther than two hours away.
••• Curious to try an e-bike without the hassle of signing up (or fee) for Santa Barbara’s new bikeshare program? “EZ Bike Project, a new electric bicycle demo program operated by the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments’s Traffic Solutions division, gets underway offering a wide range of free e-bike demos of various models including cargo bikes, cruisers, city bikes, and folding bikes to local residents and commuters as a measure to reduce traffic and air pollution in Santa Barbara County. The EZ Bike Project is located at the Bike Spot, a City of Santa Barbara self-serve valet bike parking facility at 1219 Anacapa Street in Downtown Santa Barbara. Those interested to reserve an e-bike must either live or work in Santa Barbara County and can visit EZBike.org to sign-up for a demo. In the coming months, SBCAG plans to offer shorter demo rides on weekdays and during single-day pop-up opportunities countywide.”
••• Another day, another Santa Barbara International Film Festival “award” announcement (or two): Amanda Seyfried, who brought some Old Hollywood fizz to Mank, will receive the Montecito Award, “named after one of the most beautiful and stylish areas in Santa Barbara.” And Bill Murray will get “the prestigious Maltin Modern Master Award.” He was far and away the best thing about On the Rocks.
••• Hey, hikers with dogs: there’s a better idea than leaving a poop bag on the trail because you’re certain you’ll remember to pick it up on the way back. (No one remembers every time; trust me, I participated in the Montecito Trails Foundation’s recent trail clean-up.) The MTF is now selling Wag & Wander’s reusable smell-roof waste bags, which can hold your plastic bag while you hike. Valentine’s Day is coming up fast….
