••• The Independent‘s recent article about the Santa Barbara Economic Development Partnership included word of “an exciting new venture at the former Samy’s Camera. Diana Pereira, one of the founders of Impact Hub (now called Kiva Cowork), has combined forces with Chris Chiarappa of Mesa Burger to launch Kitchen 530, a shared commercial kitchen and restaurant that marries the co-working concept with food and drink.” Here’s more from the Kitchen 530 website: “The 11,500-square-foot community kitchen, to be located at 530 State Street will feature a top of the line commercial kitchen for use by local food entrepreneurs and Santa Barbara chefs, along with a unique restaurant and retail experience.” It’s shooting to open this fall.

I miss Samy’s Camera. The first camera I bought from them when they were on Milpas was just after 9/11. President Bush said we should go out and spend money to fuel the economy. The last camera I bought was two months before they closed on State Street. This area needs a camera shop, not another restaurant.
