••• Last summer, when home store Porch had its moving sale—the store moved from Santa Claus Lane to Summerland—the word was that Folly, the store-within-the-store inside an Airstream trailer, was trying to make the move, too. Instead, Folly has taken Porch’s old space. Unfortunately, I visited yesterday, when the store was closed. (It’s closed today, too.) So these interior shots are from through the windows…. According to Folly’s Instagram, the emphasis is on vintage and handmade goods.
••• The Montecito Association has some controversial advice about holiday decorations: “If you want to leave your lights up well after New Year’s, that’s fine too. ••• Former Santa Barbara mayor Sheila Lodge has a new book, Santa Barbara: An Uncommonplace American Town, about “how Santa Barbara became the community that it is through planning [and] the many battles it sometimes took and the process that was developed to make the critical decisions. Because of her personal involvement in the struggles, her book is partially a memoir.” That description is from the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, which hosted an online talk with Lodge that I learned about too late to mention here.

••• The Coalition for Responsible Cannabis created a petition regarding the desperate need for action on odor in Santa Barbara County. What’s more, the CRC says that the Air Pollution Control District of Santa Barbara County wants “to hear about top air quality concerns in Santa Barbara County. As we know, cannabis odors are a serious air quality issue here. Please take a few minutes out of your day to take this brief survey.”
••• The November 18 meeting of the Montecito Planning Commission includes this about 1491 Edgecliff Lane. It’s noteworthy because that property is very prominent—right where Eucalyptus Lane hits Hammond’s Beach/Miramar Beach—and because I don’t think we knew that it was Van Wolfswinkel who bought it in October 2019 for $17.888 million. (He recently sold a property on Channel Drive for $17.45 million.) Van Wolfswinkel made news some years ago for spending a lot of money on local elections.
Hearing on the request of Randall Van Wolfswinkle [sic], property owner, to consider Case No. 20CDH-00000-00003, which is a request to authorize the partial demolition of the existing 6,355 square foot two-story single family dwelling, rebuild of a 6,988 square foot two-story single family dwelling, and construction of a new 51’-6” by 11’-6” pool and 24’-0” by 8’-0” reflection pool; and to determine the project is exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to State CEQA Guidelines Sections 15301 [Existing Facilities], 15302 [Replacement or Reconstruction], and 15303 [New Construction or Conversion of Small Structures]. The application involves Assessor’s Parcel No. 009-360-005, located at 1491 Edgecliff Lane, in the Montecito Community Plan area, First Supervisorial District.
