Bureaucratic Bickering Over the Olive Mill Roundabout

••• “A roundabout is coming to the intersection of Coast Village and Olive Mill roads, but when, and what it will look like, is still in motion. The Santa Barbara Planning Commission and Montecito Planning Commission held a near-9-hour meeting last week that included several breaks, along with bickering and bluster.” —Noozhawk

••• “The Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network plans to upgrade its Goleta facility by building a brand new state-of-the-art wildlife hospital. The care network has a fundraising goal of $2.5 million to complete the project.” Which is admirable. But I take issue with Noozhawk‘s note explaining that the article is “sponsored by the Hutton Parker Foundation,” because if someone is paying for coverage, whether it’s about them or someone else, it’s an ad.

••• “Good News, Bad News with Census Count […] Santa Barbara County Numbers Up Slightly from 2010, but Nearly One-Third of Households Uncounted. […] The Census population count is the basis by which about $1.5 trillion in federal grants and aid is apportioned throughout the country annually. Every person counted translates into about $2,000 a year for 10 years in federal disbursements to individual counties.” —Independent

••• “Video shows a sorority house in Isla Vista throwing a large outdoor party, breaking the Governor imposed Covid-19 pandemic rules. The video posted on Twitter shows at least fifty people in the backyard of what’s described as a ‘Delta Gamma Senior House’ in close proximity to one another.” —Edhat

••• Q&A with school-board candidate Monie de Wit. —Newsmakers

••• “A demand to remove the St. Junípero Serra statue at Mission Santa Inés [in Solvang] saw opposing groups shouting at each other in sweltering heat while members of a third group steadily recited the rosary.” —Noozhawk
